Frederiksstaden is a part of Copenhagen that includes the royal palace of Amalienborg, and Amaliehaven (the Royal Gardens). Architect Nicolai Eigtved began construction of Frederikskirken (the domed church in the middle) in 1749, but he died and the church was not finished until 1892. It is built with primarily marble, and most people call it "Marmorkirken", the 'Marble Church'. The copper dome was inspired by the Church of Saint Peter in Rome
