Inka Trail - Machu Picchu, Day 4
The sacred stone at Intihuatana. At noon on the spring and autumnal equinoxes, the sun rests directly above the pillar so that it casts no shadow. It's believed that the stone corners face the four sacred mountains of the Incas. Unfortunately, while filming a beer commercial here, a crane fell and cracked the upper corner of the rock and cracked the base. You can see the diagonal crack in the base here (the upper part is cracked off on the far right, you can see it if you look closely) |
